This weekly class is for any runner that has felt like strength and mobility has been the missing piece to their running performance. Each week will feature comprehensive programming aimed at conditioning commonly injured areas in effort to reduce injury risk and make the body more robust.

Strength work increases robustness by increasing bone density, increasing tensile strength of tissues and ligaments, and improving the force production (power!) of the nerves and muscles.

We’ll feel strong, stable, and in control of our bodies while working through common aches & pains. In addition to strength and mobility, we’ll also tackle things to help biomechanics like plyometrics and running drills. New runners, old runners, fast and slow. You’ll sweat with a welcoming and supportive community in the world’s greatest city.

Open to everyone. This class is not exclusive to runners - rather, anyone that is looking to get a comprehensive core and lower body workout into their weekly routine.

Insurance & payment
The intricacies of insurance and paying for medical visits can be confusing and frustrating. Through your course of care, you will be provided with the utmost transparency and punctuality when it comes to payments.

Cost:
Insurance is accepted on an out-of-network basis. This means that your cost per session will depend on your specific insurance plan and whether it has "out-of-network benefits" for Physical Therapy. If you do not have coverage, self-pay rates can be determined.

Some additional notes:
  • FSA and HSA cards can be used for care
  • Packages can be purchased to reduce per-session cost
  • Telehealth is available for a reduced rate

Insurance Billing:
To help, we work with a team of billing professionals that take the stress out of your care. Their role is to:
  • Verify your insurance coverage, including your deductible and co-pay information
  • Submit documentation on your behalf
  • Manage denied claims

Why Out-of-Network?
With a full hour for each session, you will receive the attention you deserve without feeling rushed. Generally, these high value visits result in you needing less visits overall, and result in higher satisfaction than when compared to in-network PT.

The in-network business model puts hard working PTs at a disadvantage - shorter visit times, more patients to manage, indirect care by using aides or techs, and often multiple patients during the same session.

Out-of-network, although it can be more expensive per visit, is an investment in your health.
What to expect
The visit:
  • Each visit is 60 minutes in length, one-on-one with me.
  • For your first visit, we'll spend as much time as needed discussing your experience, and perform various tests to determine the cause of your pain and what to expect going forward.
  • For follow-ups, we'll spend the first portion of the visit assessing what worked last time, what didn't, and what your experience was like in the time between visits.
  • Likely some form of manual therapy will be used in the initial stages of the visit, followed up by specific mobility and strength work.
In between visits:
  • After each visit, you'll receive a follow-up from me detailing your specific strength and mobility program to follow.
  • This program will tell you exactly how much, how often, and how intensely to do each movement, as well as descriptions of how each movement should feel.
  • Over time, we will build on your program - progressing and regressing where necessary based on your response to these exercise prescriptions to continue towards your goals.
What to wear:
  • We will likely be using the gym space and treadmill, so come dressed ready to move.
  • Shorts are ideal if we're working on the knee or hip, t-shirt or tank if we're working on the shoulder.
  • Bring your running shoes so that we can address wear patterns and perform a gait analysis.
Direct access - no medical script needed
Since 2006, Physical Therapists in New York have been practicing with "Direct Access," which means that clients can be seen by a PT without going to a doctor first. So! Anytime something hurts, a PT can be there to help navigate your pain experience right away, rather than having to go through the hoops of the medical system.

With Direct Access, patients can be seen for up to 10 visits or 30 days, whichever comes first, before needing a script from a physician.

Since Physical Therapists work every day with every type of pain, they're incredible entry-point healthcare resources in diagnosing orthopedic issues and referring out to the most appropriate medical specialist when appropriate.
Telehealth
Telehealth is a powerful resource that can dramatically reduce accessibility and cost barriers to care. So much of what I do as a professional is guide people through their pain experience and provide them with the necessary tools and knowledge to recover and perform effectively.

"Hands-on" work can be incredibly helpful and appropriate. However truly effective PT treatment is rarely a simple hands-on "fix-it" type of solution. Recovering from injuries takes time, an understanding of the issue, and effective programming - and that can be accomplished through Telehealth PT.

The COVID pandemic taught us that Telehealth can be an effective medium for rehab, and the equipment needed is minimal! With just a phone or computer and an internet connection and we can quickly dive into:
  • "Can I run through this?" and other participation-related questions
  • "What's causing this?" - we'll determine the most likely diagnosis
  • "When will it end?" - we'll determine a working prognosis and and set expectations
  • Effective strategies to manage your pain
  • A detailed weekly plan to guide you through recovery
  • Medical specialist referral if appropriate

Telehealth is covered by most major insurance companies. See if Telehealth is appropriate for you by scheduling a free consult call below:

Treatment approach
In a very simple sense, my approach is to treat the person in front of me. Pain is a complex experience that exists at the intersection of physiological factors, social factors, and psychological factors. Therefore, a simple hammer & nail "fix it" kind of approach won't suffice with most injuries.

That means that a detailed history and evaluation is a crucial first step in developing a foundation from which to build. Your injury history, current pain experience, your ways of coping, and your expectations around pain are important framers around your current injury. We'll answer questions like:
  • Can I run through this? - and other participation-related questions
  • What's causing this? - we'll determine the most likely diagnosis
  • When will it end? - we'll determine a working prognosis and and set expectations
This history gathering, paired with specific physical therapy tests help shape your diagnosis and set the stage for treatment.

Often, some form of manual therapy can be effective in reducing symptoms and restoring movement. I use a wide variety of manual therapy techniques like joint mobilizations, and soft tissue mobilization techniques like "Graston," "ART," deep tissue massage, vibration guns, foam rolling, myofascial cupping, and so on, and will teach you to utilize these methods on your own.

Injuries generally happen when you have exceeded your tissue's capacity for what you're asking them to do. An Achilles tendonitis, for example, is an inflammation of a tendon that wasn't strong enough to carry out your desired workload. An ankle sprain, although more violent and less preventable, is the result of exceeding the capacity of the ankle ligaments.

Therefore - the most effective method of rehab takes place in the gym. In order to restore the strength of those compromised tissues, there has to be an effective dose of load placed on them. In other words - exercise! Tissues need to be stressed in order to adapt. That's where the art of Physical Therapy comes in - knowing where, how often, and how much load to apply to a given tissue without over-stressing. A good Physical Therapist is a master of the weight room, and can regress or progress your session based on your response to exercise and your experience level.

From there - we build out your weekly plan. I will program for you exactly what to do, how often to do it, with what intensity, and what you can expect to feel with each exercise. Think of this piece as a form of coaching that takes place in between visits - you, the athlete and me, the coach.

It's my goal to restore function and get you to a place that exceeds your initial fitness. Once you're out of pain, the sky's the limit! Check out the weekly Group Training classes, "Team Training" remote coaching, and Personal Training options on this page to keep the momentum rolling.
